Mike Morris Elementary teaches Kelso's Choices, a conflict management curriculum. This program teaches students to discern between "small" problems that they can solve on their own and "big" problems that they need to tell an adult about. For small problems, students are taught nine conflict resolution skills, including:
1. Make a deal
2. Walk away
3. Wait and cool off
4. Go to another game
5. Talk it out
6. Share and take turns
7. Ignore it
8. Tell them to stop
9. Apologize
Students are encouraged to use these skills to solve small problems on the playground, in the lunchroom, and in the classroom. Students are taught to seek adult help for big problems. These conflict resolution skills give Mike Morris Elementary students healthy, safe ways to solve problems and promote independence.
