Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington

Big Brothers Big Sisters of SW Washington

Big Brothers Big Sisters operates under the belief that every child holds incredible potential. As the nation’s largest donor and volunteer supported mentoring network, Big Brothers Big Sisters makes meaningful, monitored matches between volunteers (Bigs) and children (Littles), ages 5 through young adulthood in communities across the country. Big Brothers Big Sisters develops positive relationships that have a direct and lasting effect on the lives of young people.

Littles come from diverse backgrounds and Big Brothers Big Sisters believes in the potential of all youth. Big Brothers Big Sisters of Southwest Washington creates and supports one-to-one mentoring relationships that ignite the power and promise of youth. Mentors (Bigs) act as motivators and friends, who believe in their mentees (Littles), see their potential and help them get to where they want to go. Bigs are able to share their knowledge, support and advice, as well as provide a positive influence to their Littles. By sharing positive values and support with Littles, Bigs can help Littles avoid negative behaviors and achieve success. Research studies have shown that youth mentor programs benefit youth’s grades, school attendance, increased likelihood of going to college, increased social and emotional development, and improved self-esteem. BBBS of SW WA has programs in Willapa Valley, South Bend, Raymond, Hilltop, Long Beach, Ocean Park, and Naselle Schools.
